2008 Annual General Meeting

Thursday 17th April at 8pm

Venue: email the secretary for details.

This is probably the most important meeting which our small church has ever held.   As we have failed to attract new members to swell our numbers, the time has come when we must decide whether or not it is God's will for us to continue.

Your views are essential as the decision has to be taken by the entire church community - not by the committee alone.   I urge you to come to the A.G.M. if you have ever attended Stukeley Meadows church, or if you feel that you might do so in the future.   If you cannot come then please make your views known by emailing them to the secretary.

Below is our Chairman's annual report.  Please take a few moments to read it.

April 2008

During the past year there was a proposal from Stukeley Baptist Church that our two churches should join together due to the small numbers that attend each church.  However after meetings, prayers and discussion it was decided that Stukeley Meadows Church should continue in its present format.

Diana has worked very hard in arranging the rota for each Sunday service.  Additionally since Joan has not been able to take an active part in the church Diana has also been preparing activities for the children.  We all owe her a great thanks.

Ian and Jude have also continued to allow us to meet in their home on Thursday for house group. Additionally Ian provides the music in the church. Again we owe them a great debt.  I would also like to thank Liz for all her help in the kitchen and in other areas during the year.

Unfortunately, during the year the number in the congregation has not increased. The average number is between 6 - 10.  Some Sundays it can be less.

Therefore, after much discussion with other members of the congregation, the church has to decide again whether it is viable to continue.  At the moment it seems that on the majority of occasions it is not possible to worship in the way we would like due to all the other administrative functions that are necessary to keep the church running.  Also those who do attend regularly feel a certain obligation to do so.  If people are away then there are not the numbers to cover very easily the activities which they do.

Additionally as there are so few children now attending the church then those that do so really do not get what they should from coming to church.

On the first Sunday of each month we have the opportunity to visit other churches.  If we do decide not to continue then this has given us an idea of where we could go to worship instead.

However, if the decision is taken that the church should not continue, we could certainly still meet as a house group.

This is, of course, open to discussion, but I think the decision has to be taken in the very near future.

In prayer & God bless,

Robert (Garnett)
